Phase J · Visual Direction · Six Options

Six design directions for Avery & Avery.

Three concept-first explorations (A–C) plus three explicitly engineered against analysis/visual-design-patterns.md exemplars (D–F). The vertical's mean is 11.6/25; the Premium Boutique floor is 19.5/25; brandonjbroderick clears 22/25. D, E, F are designed to sit at or above 22.

Set 1 — Concept-first directions

Each commits to a distinctive aesthetic stance independent of competitor data.
DIRECTION A · REFINED-MINIMAL

Editorial Gravitas

Magazine-masthead discipline. Hairline rules, generous whitespace, oversized serif headlines, drop caps for body openers. The hero has no image — pure typography signals confidence. Source Serif 4 + Inter, committed.

Rejects: stock-photo gavel hero, red 24/7 banner, fake badge wall, "We Fight For You" CTAs.

DIRECTION B · STATELY · ARCHIVAL

Civic Archive

NJ Reports volume aesthetic. Oxblood-iron-gall ink (#1F1A14) on aged-cream paper (#F4EAD5) with paper-grain noise. Fraunces variable + Newsreader + JetBrains Mono. Red certification stamps, FOLIO labels, statute callouts.

Owns: the ex-judge / 50-year story. The page itself looks like a court document.

DIRECTION C · DATA-FORWARD ALMANAC

Trial Ledger

Almanac feel. Bricolage Grotesque + Inter + JetBrains Mono. Every page surfaces verifiable facts as ledger cards: 50yr / 552 courts / 21/21 counties / N.J.S.A. citations. Pills, tabular figures, ruling-line grid.

Owns: verifiable density. Competitors say "experienced"; this cites 552 courthouses and statute references on every practice card.

Set 2 — Data-grounded directions (new)

Engineered against analysis/visual-design-patterns.md §1 archetypes + §5 recommendations. Each cites the exemplars it emulates and the RPC gaps it closes.
DIRECTION D · A4 PREMIUM BOUTIQUE — TOP OF CLASS

Bergen Boutique

Emulates: brandonjbroderick.com (22/25 — the highest A4 in-sample) + bergencountynjcriminallawyer.com (22/25 trust-badge density)

Charcoal #18222F + warm cream + a single bronze accent. Quiet "Our first conversation starts with listening." hero in the Broderick mold. Lifestyle photography, not named-attorney face above the fold (Broderick move). Adds the hero-zone badge strip Broderick lacked — Super Lawyers / NJSBA / 3d Cir. / BCBA / Avvo all visible in first viewport (the §5 Rec 4 element). Sticky mobile phone CTA. Result-strip with co-located "Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome" — fixing §4 RPC gap #3.

Targets 22+/25 Closes RPC §4 gap #3 §5 Rec 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

DIRECTION E · A3 COMPETENT MID-FIRM — BLENDED HIGH-SCORERS

Sussex Counsel

Emulates: hollanderstrelzik.com (18/25 — "Sussex County Law Firm" identity) + sutnicklaw.com (17/25 — trust-seal cluster + warm-grey palette)

Navy #1A2742 + cream + warm grey + a sky-tinted accent. Two-row publication header (utility bar + masthead + nav rule). Cormorant Garamond display + Source Sans 3 body — distinctive but trade-appropriate. Group attorney photo as primary asset (the Hollander move) plus a secondary headshot row on bio pages. Trust-seal cluster in dedicated band: Super Lawyers / NJSBA / Lead Counsel Verified / BCBA / 3d Cir. / BBB A+ — copying Sutnick's seal-style approach. "Bergen County counsel, statewide reach" identity messaging that lives inside the statewide tagline rather than fighting it.

Targets 21+/25 Identity-rooted (the missing Hollander move) §5 Rec 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7

DIRECTION F · HYBRID A4 + A5 EDITORIAL — HIGHEST CEILING

NJ Reporter

Emulates: maggianolaw.com (21/25 — best in-sample typography, A5 Editorial) × bergencountynjcriminallawyer.com (22/25 — best in-sample badge density, A4 top-of-class)

Publication-style masthead. Tenor Sans display (the editorial sans Maggiano-class publications use) + Newsreader variable serif body + DM Sans UI. Warm cream + deep navy + mustard/ochre accent. "Reported Matters" framing for results — feature article + 3 short reports — replaces the "millions recovered" trope and sidesteps the RPC ambiguity. Mitigates Maggiano's §5 Rec 1 risk by anchoring on real attorney photography above the fold (with byline-style caption) instead of going illustration-only. Closes Maggiano's §4 RPC gap #5 by typesetting the prior-results disclaimer as part of the same editorial reading frame as the verdict figures, not as a footer afterthought. Dense badge band on its own black row, in the Bergen 22/25 tradition.

Targets 23+/25 Closes RPC §4 gap #5 Mitigates Maggiano Rec 1 risk §5 Rec 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

How D, E, F differ from A, B, C

Set 1 commits to a distinctive aesthetic stance independent of the competitor data. Set 2 reverse-engineers from the actual scoring rubric:

Recommendation order if you only open three: D first (safest path to 22/25), then F (highest ceiling but bolder), then E (if you want the Bergen-rooted identity story).

All six are deploy-target-agnostic. The Phase J build agent will work from whichever direction (or combination) you pick. The current site/tailwind.config.mjs carries Direction A's tokens; D requires changing the navy to #18222F, E requires adding a sky #5C7CA6 secondary, F requires Tenor Sans + Newsreader + DM Sans + mustard #C99428.
